Interesting fact:
This striking shell once housed a sea snail also known as Lambis chiragra. This large sea snail can be found scavenging the ocean floor near Indonesia. These aquatic creatures are best known for the spines that extend outward in a spider-like structure. While these spikes are prominent in males, the female’s spikes are thinner and darker in color. This difference in sexes means the shell is dimorphic.
Some surrounding cultures in Japan see this shell as a symbol for good luck or good fortune. They are used as a representation at local festivals or given as offerings to deities.
