Interesting facts about Fluorite:
Fluorite gets it’s name from the latin word “fluere”, which means “to flow”. This is because Fluorite is known to have one of the lowest melting points, at a cool temperature of 2480 Fahrenheit (1360 Celsius). This low melting point has helped in the production of fiberglass, ceramics and even toothpaste! While Fluorite in it’s purest form is seen as colorless, imperfections and radiation get introduced to the mineral resulting in an array of colors making it the most colorful mineral in the world. Most commonly found with hues of green, yellow, blue and purple, this mineral can also produce pinks, reds, browns or even blacks. If you shine a UV light on the fluorite you will be able to see the change from fluorite to fluoresce. This is how we got the word “fluorescent”, because of the glowing phenomenon this creates.
Some believe this colorful mineral can help with mental clarity, protection and emotional balance. These metaphysical properties are the reason fluorite is also known as the “Genius Stone”.
