This one-of-a-kind framed collection displays a Monarch butterfly (Danaus plexippus) and 4 mimic species. The specimens are arranged in a scientific display in a Riker frame.
Many butterfly species employ a defensive strategy called mimicry, copying the resemblance of its surroundings or another organism. In the case of Monarch butterflies, there are several other butterfly species that mimic it’s orange coloration and/or pattern to trick predators into thinking they are toxic like the Monarchs.
