More about Morpho didius:
Morpho didius is one of the largest species of Morpho and one of the most common. The caterpillars feed on palm trees, which are very common in the country of origin, giving the species a wide range of habitat and the larvae an excellent chance of survival.
The blue morpho has been made famous by the movie “Papillon”. Historically, the scales from this butterfly have been incorporated into paper money in order to prevent counterfeiting. A prison on Devil’s Island, off the coast of French Guyana, famously utilized this technique and had prisoners collecting Morpho butterflies for this purpose in the late 1800s and early 1900s.
